Classic Moments In Punksud History

June 7th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Things have seemed a bit slow lately. Time for the first installment of CLASSIC MOMENTS IN PUNKSUD HISTORY.

It was the early months of 2006, probably the first COP CARS show, at the Sudbury Arts Council R.I.P.
Sandro Sanchioni had just received a fresh pair of Timberlands and was pumped to show ‘em off.

At the peak of his COLD WORLD infatuation, he had just dropped $8O USD on a CW crewneck.

Not wanting to risk his sweater in the pit, Sanchy Smooth 2005 decided to mosh in a cut-off Shady Limited shirt and the illest pair of Calgary Flames sweatpants I’ve seen, before or since.

Socan

May 30th, 2009 · No Comments

I’d just like to start off by saying how excited I am that punksud is back online. This is an essential resource for communicating within the Sudbury music scene.

Also, obviously (because of the presence of this post) I’ve been given the priviledge of posting on the punksud blog, so I’d like to thank Frank for the opportunity.

With that out of the way, I’ll get my first post underway.

To all you promoters out there just getting started, and I guess even to more established ones, read this entry on the i(heart)music blog. The guy who runs I(heart)music, Matthew Polessel, has been putting on smaller concerts in the Ottawa region as well as blogging about music for several years now. I guess one of the artists that he booked filed for SOCAN (the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) royalties and they caught wind of his activities and looked into all the shows he had put on in the past (over 70). They then dinged him for all of those shows and he ended up owing over $2,000 in back SOCAN royalties.

Matthew was able to raise the money through a donate button on his blog and a fundraiser show, but it’s a good thing to keep in mind for anyone putting on a show! Apparently, SOCAN is entitled to either 3% of the door or $35 from every live music performance event, whichever is greater, when any of the performers at the event are members of SOCAN.

CIV have posted their entire discography for stream online here: http://www.spinner.ca/new-releases#/5

“Nearly a decade after Civ’s demise, the New York hardcore kingpins, named after frontman Anthony Civarelli (Gorilla Biscuits), will get the box treatment with a 43-song, 2-CD collection. In addition, the band’s mostly out-of-print discography will see a release on May 19.”
